The rumors are true: this fall, Alice In Chains will be joined by special guests Deftones and Mastodon on BlackDiamondSkye, a monolithic triple bill that is guaranteed to be the hottest ticket of the fall touring season. The rollicking roadshow, produced by Live Nation, launches September 16 at the Charter One Pavilion in Chicago, Illinois. Over the course of the past week, message boards across the Internet have been buzzing about the tour following a series of mysterious videos.

“Rather than launch with a traditional tour announcement, we wanted to engage the fans first,” says David “Beno” Benveniste, founder of Velvet Hammer Music and Management Group, who rep Alice In Chains and Deftones. “We gave them a cryptic clip featuring video snippets of each band and they lit up the Internet. Now there’s an entire online community talking about the tour and speculating about the bands involved. It’s thrilling to see them communicate and respond so positively to this exciting tour.”

“We’re really looking forward to touring with our friends, Deftones and Mastodon,” says Alice In Chains guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell. “Each band has its own unique flavor and the combination of all three will make for a great show and a good time on the road.”

“BlackDiamondSkye spotlights three distinctly different and influential artists and fuses their individual fanbases into a single entity,” says Benveniste. “This is the poster kids will want to have on their walls, and ten years from now people will look back at this as a timeless and important tour.”

AIC kicked ass! Here’s a shot from the Feb 13th show.

The Pulse of Radio reports that the new episode of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”, which aired on VH1 on Thursday night (February 18), focused on former ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Starr coming to terms with his own guilt over the drug-related death of his friend and bandmate, ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley. The episode featured an appearance from Staley’s mother, Nancy McCallum.

Despite Starr’s involvement and McCallum’s appearance, however, other members of ALICE IN CHAINS have been vocal about their distaste for the program. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell blasted the show recently in a radio interview and drummer Sean Kinney told The Pulse of Radio he feels the same as Cantrell. “It exploits people at their lowest point, when they’re not in their right mind, and the sad part is, this is like entertainment for people when it’s actually a life-and-death situation. I don’t think it helps anybody and it makes entertainment out of people’s possible death, and that’s pathetic and it’s stupid. So I don’t support that show at all and I think it’s pretty disgusting. But Mike getting his life together or anybody doing that, I’ll support that.”

Jerry Cantrell remarked to an Atlanta radio station about “Celebrity Rehab”, “That particular show, I think it’s a real travesty and a shame to put people in a really vulnerable situation like that and make it entertainment for people to see.”

Starr was ALICE IN CHAINS’ first bass player and played with the band from 1987 to 1993. He appeared on the band’s first two albums, “Facelift” and “Dirt”, but left in the middle of the “Dirt” tour and was replaced by current bassist Mike Inez.

ALICE IN CHAINS vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002 after a long struggle with drug addiction that sidelined the band’s career for many years.

Hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, “Celebrity Rehab” follows the real-life experiences of celebrity patients undergoing detoxification and treatment at the Pasadena Recovery Center.

Alice In Chains have recently released a video for the song “Your Decision” , which comes off of their new critically acclaimed album, Black Gives Way To Blue. The video was directed by Stephen Schuster, who also worked with the band on the video for “A Looking In View.” Also featured in the “Your Decision” video is Season Three “Project Runway” model Amanda Fields. “Your Decision” is the second single to be lifted from Black Gives Way To Blue, which sold 126,000 copies in the US in its first week to land at No. 5 on the Billboard Top 200 chart.

ALICE IN CHAINS have announced dates for a North American tour set to kick off at the Orpheum Theatre in Vancouver on February 2nd. Tickets go on sale December 4th and 5th – fans can get more info at www.aliceinchains.com. The band is touring in support of its critically acclaimed new album BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE (Virgin/EMI), which entered Billboard’s Top 200 Albums Chart at No. 5, with first-week sales exceeding 126,000 copies.

The band’s electrifying set list will spotlight classic hits and new favorites, including new single “Your Decision,” which impacts radio on December 7th. The band recently shot a video for the song with director Stephen Schuster, who they previously worked with on the video for “A Looking In View.”

Los Angeles-based AIC fans can catch the band performing at the KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas show at the Gibson Amphitheatre on December 12. Tickets will go on sale Saturday, November 21 and proceeds will benefit two local charities, Para Los Ninos and the Al Wooten Jr. Heritage Center. Kristin Winsents of the Norwegian broadcaster NRK’s weekly pop music show “Lydverket” recently travelled to Seattle to interview ALICE IN CHAINS, NIRVANA “Bleach” producer Jack Endino and GRAND ARCHIVES, among others, for a feature story on the grunge scene (looking back on its rise in the early ’90s as well as examining why PEARL JAM and ALICE IN CHAINS are experiencing a huge resurgence in popularity in 2009). Her unedited chat with ALICE IN CHAINS can now be viewed below.

As previously reported, “Project Runway” season three model Amanda Fields is featured in the new video from ALICE IN CHAINS, “Your Decision”, which was recently filmed in a “giant house between Santa Monica and Malibu off the Pacific Coast Highway.” The clip is being directed by Stephen Schuster, who previously worked with ALICE IN CHAINS on the “A Looking In View” video.

To coincide with the band’s European tour, ALICE IN CHAINS will release the “Your Decision” single on November 16 in the U.K.

“Your Decision” is the second single to be lifted from band’s first all-new album in 14 years, titled “Black Gives Way To Blue”, which sold 126,000 copies in the United States in its first week of release to land at position No. 5 on The Billboard 200 chart (behind latest albums from PARAMORE, MARIAH CAREY, BARBRA STREISAND and BREAKING BENJAMIN).

ALICE IN CHAINS recruited pop legend Elton John to contribute piano to the CD’s title track, which is written in tribute to Staley.

Singer William DuVall had played with his own group, COMES WITH THE FALL, as well as in Jerry Cantrell’s solo band, before joining up with ALICE IN CHAINS in 2006.

“Black Gives Way to Blue” was recorded with producer Nick Raskulinecz (FOO FIGHTERS, RUSH) at the Northridge, California studio of FOO FIGHTERS frontman Dave Grohl.

In their first late-night network performance in more than 10 years, ALICE IN CHAINS appeared last night (Tuesday, September 29) on ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”. The much-buzzed-about event kicked off on the Bud Light Outdoor Stage — the largest outdoor stage among the late night talk shows — with an electrifying performance in the middle of Hollywood.

Legendary rock band ALICE IN CHAINS will celebrate the release of its highly anticipated new album, “Black Gives Way To Blue”, with an outdoor mini-concert on ABC-TV’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” on Tuesday, September 29 (which will actually air the morning of Wednesday, September 30).

If you pre-order ALICE IN CHAINS’ new album, “Black Gives Way To Blue”, via iTunes, you will receive two exclusive bonus tracks: “Your Decision” (live) and “Black Gives Way To Blue (Elton John Piano Mix)”.

ALICE IN CHAINS has released “Check My Brain” as the first official single from “Black Gives Way To Blue”. The song made its way to radio stations earlier in the month and is also streaming online. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell told The Pulse of Radio he wrote the song about moving from Seattle, where he grew up, to Los Angeles. “There’s a certain aspect of sarcasm, I guess, being a guy from Seattle who lives in L.A., ex-drug addict who lives in the belly of the beast and doesn’t partake, and being totally cool with that,” he said. “It’s like being the bad gambler and living in Vegas. It’s right there. It’s just the irony of that and a little bit of sarcasm. And it’s not putting this place down at all. It’s just kind of like, ‘Wow, you know, check my brain, wow.’”

ALICE IN CHAINS recently tapped U2 and WHITE STRIPES video director Alex Courtes to shoot a clip for “Check My Brain”.

“Black Gives Way To Blue” arrives in stores on September 29 and is the first all-new ALICE IN CHAINS album in 14 years.

The disc features the recording debut with the group of singer and guitarist William DuVall. Original frontman Layne Staley died in 2002.

ITN Music has uploaded interview footage from the “red carpet” at this year’s Kerrang! Awards, which was held last night (Monday, August 3) in London, England.

According to ContactMusic.com, SLIPKNOT walked away with “Best Live Act” and “Best International Band” at the event, which frontman Corey Taylor co-hosted. He branded the double award win “really gratifying” and added, “I can’t think of many bands that have worked harder, and it really feels good that people are starting to turn around and really see what we’re about and appreciating it for what it is.”

METALLICA won “Best Album” for “Death Magnetic”, while THE PRODIGY walked away with the “Best Single” honor for “Omen”.

Kerrang! editor Paul Brannigan stated: “SLIPKNOT and METALLICA are the two monsters of rock who have been picked out by the Kerrang! readers this time around. They’ve both had a really good year, No. 1 albums in the States and No. 1 and No. 2 albums over here, sold-out arena tours, headlining major rock festivals in this country… it’s not really a surprise that they’re up for every single category they’re eligible for.”

BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE scooped “Best British Band” for the second year in a row and San Francisco, California band MACHINE HEAD were handed the night’s “Inspiration Award” for their contribution to heavy metal.

Reunited grunge rockers ALICE IN CHAINS and reformed LIMP BIZKIT were presented with the night’s “Icon Award” and “Hall of Fame” prize, respectively.

Although it’s been posted online and is not an official single, “A Looking In View” has already begun climbing the rock radio charts as the first new music released by the group in 14 years. Cantrell told The Pulse of Radio what the song was about. “The song is kind of generally about how easy it is to remain in a bad groove (laughs), you know, remain in a bad rut,” he said. “The most difficult and at the same time easy thing is just to step out of it, you know what I mean? It’s like being in a cell that you’re locked in, with a door that’s not locked. That could be anything, you know. It could be any sort of behavioral or thought process that keeps you there and basically keeps you from growing.”

“A Looking In View” is taken from the new ALICE IN CHAINS album, “Black Gives Way To Blue”, which arrives on September 29.

ALICE IN CHAINS has tapped U2 and WHITE STRIPES video director Alex Courtes to shoot a clip for the first single from the record, “Check My Brain”.

Fans and members of the press heard “Black Gives Way To Blue” in its entirety at a private listening party in Los Angeles on July 14, followed by a three-song acoustic set by the band in which it debuted two songs from the album live — the title track and “Your Decision”.

The group’s tour starts on September 4 in Washington D.C.

According to Reuters, ALICE IN CHAINS previewed its first studio album in 14 years at a listening party in Hollywood, California on Tuesday.
Guitarist Jerry Cantrell, accompanied by new singer/guitarist William DuVall, bass player Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney, performed a three-song acoustic set at the Montalban Theatre, including the title track from the new album, “Black Gives Way To Blue”, due in stores on September 29.

Cantrell described the song as a “deep” tribute to DuVall’s predecessor, Layne Staley, who lost his lengthy battle with drugs in 2002. It includes a glockenspiel turn by Kinney. The band also played another new song, “Your Decision”, and “Down in a Hole”, from its 1992 breakthrough “Dirt”.

Alice In Chains have posted the video for ‘A Looking In View,’ the first track from their upcoming album Black Gives Way To Blue, to their official website. Black Gives Way To Blue is the band’s first album with new vocalist William DuVall, and is scheduled for release on September 29.

On June 30, 2009, one of the album’s songs, “A Looking in View”, was released as the first single from the album. It was made available for a limited time as a free download through the official Alice in Chains website. It is also available for purchase through the iTunes music store and Amazon.com. A music video for “A Looking in View” debuted via Alice in Chains’ official website on July 7, 2009. As of June 26, 2009, according to Blabbermouth.net, sources have told The Pulse of Radio that an official radio single called “Check My Brain” will head to rock stations in mid-August.

In September 2008, it was announced that Alice in Chains would headline Australia’s Soundwave Festival in 2009, alongside Nine Inch Nails and Lamb of God. In February 2009, it was also announced that Alice in Chains would play at the third annual Rock on the Range festival. On August 1, 2009, Alice in Chains, along with Mastodon, Avenged Sevenfold, and Thin Lizzy, will perform at Marlay Park, Dublin as a direct support to Metallica.

ALICE IN CHAINS’ first collection of all-new studio material in 14 years, “Black Gives Way To Blue”, is set for release on September 29 through EMI Music’s Virgin Records label. The disc will feature the recording debut with the group of singer William DuVall, who first got behind the mic for the band’s 2006 reunion tour after original vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002.

The album title first appeared on Amazon.com without any prior announcement from the band, who made their signing with Virgin official a couple of weeks ago through a press release that did not reveal a title or release date.

Guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently told The Pulse of Radio that ALICE IN CHAINS was “really proud” of the new record, adding, “Regardless of how it does, it’s a win already for us, ’cause we really dig it and we stand behind it, and each other.”

ALICE IN CHAINS will play a small, intimate gig at London, England’s Scala on August 4 — two days after playing the second stage at the METALLICA-headlined inaugural Sonisphere festival, set to take place on August 1-2 at the legendary Knebworth Park, United Kingdom.

ALICE IN CHAINS will next perform on July 18 at Comerica Park in Detroit with KID ROCK. The group has yet to air any of the new material live.

TOOL, LINKIN PARK and ALICE IN CHAINS are among the confirmed bands for the Epicenter festival, set to take place August 22 at the Fairplex in Pomona, California. Also scheduled to appear are Australian metal act WOLFMOTHER and Tom Morello’s latest project, STREET SWEEPER SOCIAL CLUB, along with HOLLYWOOD UNDEAD, ATREYU and SONNY as well as hip-hop artists ATMOSPHERE and AESOP ROCK.

Epicenter will be produced by Right Arm Entertainment, which specializes in radio station festivals and has worked with KROQ-FM (106.7) on its Inland Invasion events.

Tickets go on sale Saturday through Ticketmaster. Prices, not including surcharges, range from $79.50 for general admission to $125 for VIP access.

“To introduce a new rock festival in Southern California, you have to dream big,” says Right Arm Entertainment’s Gary Spivack. “We’re dedicated to making this the best rock festival of the summer.”

Rock legends Alice In Chains are gearing up for the release of their new album, Black Gives Way To Blue. The record will see a release through Virgin on September 29. It’s the band’s first studio album in more than 10 years and first to feature new guitarist William DuVall who shares lead vocal duties with original guitarist Jerry Cantrell.

The band have uploaded a sneak preview of the video for the first track to be culled from the record, A Looking In View, to the band’s website and it’s available for viewing below. The full video will debut on www.aliceinchains.com in the coming weeks.

In related news the band’s headline show at London’s Scala on August 4 has now sold out.

Alice In Chains will play the Sonisphere festival with Metallica, Nine Inch Nails and Avenged Sevenfold on Sunday August 2.

Legendary rock band ALICE IN CHAINS has signed an exclusive worldwide deal with EMI’s Virgin Records and are gearing up for the release of their first new studio album in more than 10 years. The band and producer Nick Raskulinecz (RUSH, FOO FIGHTERS) began recording last October at Studio 606 in Northridge, California and recently finished mixing at Henson Studios in Hollywood. The highly anticipated album is scheduled for release this September.

Guitarist/vocalist Jerry Cantrell, drummer Sean Kinney and bassist Mike Inez reunited in 2005 at a benefit for victims of the tsunami in Indonesia. They began touring with new guitarist/vocalist William DuVall the following year.

“It’s been a meaningful journey and a hell of a story,” says Cantrell. “We’re very excited to have a home at Virgin/EMI and are looking forward to writing new chapters in the book of ALICE.”

“We’re in a good place,” adds Kinney. “We’ve made a record that we’re really proud of, we’ve got a team in place that’s passionate about the music and we’re excited for the fans to hear the new songs.”

Next up is a July 18 show with KID ROCK at Comerica Park in Detroit, to be followed by festival shows with METALLICA overseas, including an August 1 date at Marlay Park in Dublin and an August 2 show at the Sonisphere Festival at Knebworth. Earlier this year, the quartet took a break from recording to perform a string of shows in Australia with NINE INCH NAILS.

Over the course of their remarkable career, ALICE IN CHAINS has garnered multiple Grammy nominations, sold more than 17 million albums worldwide and achieved 11 top 10 hit singles.

Tom Morello (RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE), Jerry Cantrell (ALICE IN CHAINS), Perry Farrell (JANE’S ADDICTION) and Gilby Clarke (GUNS N’ ROSES) are among the musicians who performed at the Sing Sing maximum-security prison in Ossining, New York on May 2. The appearance was organized by punk rock pioneer and activist Wayne Kramer of MC5 fame who also talked with the prisoners. Kramer writes on The Huffington Post web site, “We went in with the blessing of the New York State Department of Corrections to inaugurate a new program focusing on inmate rehabilitation. To tell you the truth, I didn’t think it would happen. I could not have been more wrong. We had all played a concert the night before in Manhattan for Road Recovery, a non-profit organization that works with at-risk kids. The show was sold out with the help of my comrade Iggy Pop and it was a resounding success.”

Alice in Chains have completed the mixing stage of their first album since the death of Layne Stayley. While the shows that the band have put on with new frontman William DuVall have been nothing short of sensational, this will be the first material to be released by Alice In Chains v2.0.

A posting from Alice In Chains’ webmaster The Baldy has said: “Some amazing songs were written and recorded. From the heaviest riff-dripping gut-puncher to the most sadly beautiful song I think this band has ever recorded, I honestly believe that this album will return Alice In Chains to the top of the hard rock heap.”

“So now the next few months are dedicated to things like album artwork, lining up interviews and press, shooting videos, planning tours, and figuring out whether to bury Jerry (Cantrell) and William’s (DuVall) beards at sea or donate them to science.”

“Hopefully these new songs will strike a chord and make a similar impact on all of you out there that were moved by this band in the first place. These songs have definitely done that with me, and frankly I’m getting pretty sick and tired of loving this stuff alone, so I can’t wait for it to be released so it’ll become your favorite record of 2009 and we can discuss it at the shows.”

While the band have not announced a title or tracklisting for the record, former Guns N’ Roses and current Velvet Revolver bassist Duff McKagan has heard the record. In a chat with the podcast TalkingMetal.com, McKagan described he record as “the best I’ve heard in ten years”.

ALICE IN CHAINS guitarist Jerry Cantrell recently spoke with Australia’s Courier-Mail about the group’s upcoming album, its first full-length set of new material in more than 13 years and first without lead singer Layne Staley, who died in 2002 after a long battle with drug addiction. Handling lead vocals is William DuVall, who has sung with the group ever since it reactivated in 2005. Cantrell said, “The new stuff is cool. It’s pretty goddamn crushing. I’ve stepped up a little bit from where I was before . . . obviously, it’ll be a new sound from William being there — but it sounds like an ALICE IN CHAINS record and a kick-ass one. There’s everything from the darkest of dark, heavy shit to acoustic stuff. Throw all that together and that’s what you’ll get.”

Cantrell told The Pulse of Radio when the band first got back together that they did not have a set plan to tour or make a new album. “You know, if you were looking at how to really capitalize on this experience and really make dough and make it a profitable thing, a band might, you know, would come out with a singer, have a record ready and all that,” he said. “But that’s not where we’re coming from with this thing. We’re coming from the place of ‘It feels good, and we’re having a good time, so we’d like people to be a part of that.’”

ALICE IN CHAINS is scheduled to play at Columbus, Ohio’s Rock On The Range festival in mid-May.
