Drummer Atom Willard has parted ways with Social Distortion. The band released this statement through their mailing list:

“Due to many foreseeable scheduling conflicts with his band Angels And Airwaves, we regret to announce that Atom Willard will no longer be able to continue on drums for Social Distortion.

“We know this was not an easy decision for him, but Atom is an incredible individual and we’re all better people for having him on board while we did.

“Atom will be sorely missed, but we wish him the very best.”

The long-running band is in the midst of recording their next studio album, and plan to play a few shows in South America this April.

Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl has said he believes that the band’s next studio album will be their “heaviest album yet”.

The group are currently demoing songs for the record, which will be produced by Butch Vig.

Grohl said that unlike their last two albums, which were recorded at Studio 606 in California, their next effort would be tracked at his home.

When asked about potential noise complaints from neighbours, the singer told Rolling Stone: “We’re doing a test on Monday.”

He added: “I think this could be our heaviest album yet.”

Meanwhile, Grohl is also working on a new record with Them Crooked Vultures.

The band made the announcement on their website and explained that Bryar had actually left the group four weeks ago. In the short message posted on their website, the other members of My Chemical Romance wished Bryar all the best but did not reveal the reason for his departure or who would be replacing him.

“Recently it seems as though every time we write to you guys we have bad news, and we apologize for that, but we’ve learned in life you can’t have the sweet without the sour,” wrote guitarist Frank Iero.

“As of 4 weeks ago, My Chemical Romance and Bob Bryar parted ways. This was a painful decision for all of us to make and was not taken lightly. We wish him the best of luck in his future endeavors and expect you all to do the same.”

Bryar originally replaced former drummer Matt Pelissier in 2004. Iero continued on in the message, providing an update on the band’s upcoming album.

“We have been writing some very powerful new songs,” he said. “So this week the four of us entered the studio once again, and what has been ending up on tape each night is some of the most exciting and honest work we have ever created.”

The new track titled “A Stitch In Time” is the third song to be released from the Teargarden series. Frontman Billy Corgan had previously stated plans to release each of the 44 songs individually through the Internet with hopes to include them on EPs as well.

With the recent release of “A Stitch In Time”, Corgan commented on the track featuring a 1960s’ psychedelic rock sound that’s similar to the other new material.

“The song came in during a stream of consciousness moment while sitting backstage at a Pumpkins’ concert in those wee, still hours between soundcheck and the show,” said Corgan. “The lyrics came just as surprisingly fast as the music, and the whole process took about 20 minutes. I recorded it on my phone, and so for a year it was the only document I had of the song.”

The musician went on to explain about how the track stuck with him over a period of time and made the cut to be include on Teargarden.

“But the song stuck with me and I put it in my back pocket as something worth coming back to later,” he said. “When I drew up the list of the first four songs to record this one easily made the cut because I think it has a signifying effect of what the album stands for, not so much musically but energetically and thematically.”

A full album stream and new video have been posted for the critically acclaimed Gorillaz project. The band is a project of Damon Albarn (Blur, The Good, the Bad and the Queen) and the record features high profile guests including Lou Reed, Mark E. Smith of The Fall, Mos Def, Snoop Dogg and many others. Of particular note is that Albarn has enlisted Mick Jones and Paul Simonon of The Clash for their first recorded performance together in many years. Albarn and Simonon previously collaborated on The Good, the Bad and the Queen.

The premiere of the “Beautiful Thieves” was no different, and to sate fans the band has released a behind the scenes look at the video. In the six minute piece each member of AFI shares insight on the song itself, the meaning of the video, or what it’s like on the set of a video shoot. In describing the overall video lead vocalist Davey remarks, “[It] shows people actually being forced to be responsible for their actions. A limited-edition, orange-vinyl seven-inch reissue of SOUNDGARDEN’s debut SubPop single, “Hunted Down” and the B-side “Nothing To Say”, will be available at select independent record stores on “Record Store Day” (April 17).

“Record Store Day” celebrates the continued existence of independent record stores, mostly through live in-store appearances, performances and special limited-edition releases that will only be sold through participating stores on the day itself, which is April 17 this year.

Multiple sources recently told both The Daily Swarm and the Chicago Tribune that a reunited SOUNDGARDEN is close to being confirmed as one of the headliners for the 2010 edition of Lollapalooza, scheduled for August 6-8 at Grant Park in Chicago. Representatives for the event have not commented on the reports, nor have they officially confirmed any performers for the festival.

Despite a cryptic January 1 announcement via singer Chris Cornell’s Twitter account that many took to mean SOUNDGARDEN was coming back after a 13-year hiatus, the band has yet to officially unveil any plans.

ALICE IN CHAINS drummer Sean Kinney, who co-owns a Seattle club where the members of SOUNDGARDEN minus Cornell played a brief set last year, told The Pulse of Radio he hadn’t heard much since then about a full reunion. “I haven’t heard from any of them that they’re actually doing it,” he said. “I know there’s talks of it. I know they’re releasing stuff that they’ve had, rarities and kind of box set-ty deal, but I’d like to see ‘em do some shows and they probably will. But I haven’t heard that they will for sure.”

One factor that could complicate plans for a SOUNDGARDEN reunion would be the schedule of drummer Matt Cameron, who is committed to shows this year with PEARL JAM, of which he has been a member since 1998.

The lineup for Lollapalooza, now entering its sixth year as a “destination” festival, is usually unveiled by organizers in April, with acts leaked beforehand.

According to The Pulse of Radio, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS unveiled their first new album in nine years at a private listening party on Tuesday night (February 23) in New York City. The entire band was in attendance at the event, with The Pulse of Radio’s reporter on the scene saying that singer Scott Weiland “looked the best he’s looked in a long time.” All 12 tracks from the album were aired, with The Pulse of Radio reporter calling the record “a natural, melodic progression for STONE TEMPLE PILOTS, with BEATLES-esque harmonies, a lot of in-your-face, hard-rocking tracks, plenty of guitar solos and some astounding singing from Weiland.”

The yet-to-be-titled album, STONE TEMPLE PILOTS ’s sixth, will be out June 1.

STONE TEMPLE PILOTS reunited in 2008 after a six-year layoff. The band’s last album, “Shangri-La-Dee-Da”, came out in 2001.

The PILOTS will also tour throughout the spring and summer, with Weiland hinting in a recent interview that the band might mount its own festival.

Bassist Robert DeLeo said about the new disc, “Fans are going get a great STP record . . . a really cohesive record with songs that are going to be lasting.”

Hard rock outfit 10 Years, has released information via Myspace, of their upcoming release “Feeding the Wolves”. The only announced track so far is “Shoot It Out”, and the band has recruited Grammy Nominated producer Howard Benson, and Chris Lord Algae of David Bowie, and Prince fame to mix the singles. The group also talked about the new direction of the new album.

“We are so proud of this music and I think that it’s really going to come together with Howard at the helm. It’s a completely different vibe from the last album; the tension is gone and we’re gelling more than ever. The best description I can give is it’s a cross between the 10 Years of our high school days and a new 10 Years that I think will surprise people. Either way, we’re back and ready to rock.”

The Pulse of Radio reports that the new episode of “Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew”, which aired on VH1 on Thursday night (February 18), focused on former ALICE IN CHAINS bassist Mike Starr coming to terms with his own guilt over the drug-related death of his friend and bandmate, ALICE IN CHAINS singer Layne Staley. The episode featured an appearance from Staley’s mother, Nancy McCallum.

Despite Starr’s involvement and McCallum’s appearance, however, other members of ALICE IN CHAINS have been vocal about their distaste for the program. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell blasted the show recently in a radio interview and drummer Sean Kinney told The Pulse of Radio he feels the same as Cantrell. “It exploits people at their lowest point, when they’re not in their right mind, and the sad part is, this is like entertainment for people when it’s actually a life-and-death situation. I don’t think it helps anybody and it makes entertainment out of people’s possible death, and that’s pathetic and it’s stupid. So I don’t support that show at all and I think it’s pretty disgusting. But Mike getting his life together or anybody doing that, I’ll support that.”

Jerry Cantrell remarked to an Atlanta radio station about “Celebrity Rehab”, “That particular show, I think it’s a real travesty and a shame to put people in a really vulnerable situation like that and make it entertainment for people to see.”

Starr was ALICE IN CHAINS’ first bass player and played with the band from 1987 to 1993. He appeared on the band’s first two albums, “Facelift” and “Dirt”, but left in the middle of the “Dirt” tour and was replaced by current bassist Mike Inez.

ALICE IN CHAINS vocalist Layne Staley died in 2002 after a long struggle with drug addiction that sidelined the band’s career for many years.

Hosted by Dr. Drew Pinsky, “Celebrity Rehab” follows the real-life experiences of celebrity patients undergoing detoxification and treatment at the Pasadena Recovery Center.

Foo Fighters drummer Taylor Hawkins has announced plans to release a new album featuring a host of guest stars.

The sticksman is set to release his second LP “Red Light Fever” with his band Coattail Riders on April 19.

The LP, which is the follow up to their self-titled 2006 debut, features Queen’s Brian May and Roger Taylor, who previously played with Foo Fighters at London’s Hyde Park in 2006, bandmate Dave Grohl and The Cars’ guitarist Elliot Easton.

Tracks slated to appear on the record, which was recorded at Foo Fighters’ 606 studio in California, include “Way Down”, “Not Bad Luck” and “Hell To Pay”.

Orange County, California AVENGED SEVENFOLD has tapped DREAM THEATER’s Mike Portnoy to play on the band’s forthcoming album following the recent passing of AVENGED SEVENFOLD drummer James “The Rev” Sullivan.

“[We] want our fans to know that with Jimmy in our hearts, our journey to record has officially began,” AVENGED SEVENFOLD said in a statement.

“Jimmy helped leave this world an amazing gift and now it’s our job to make sure to deliver that gift to our fans.

“We asked Jimmy’s all-time favorite drummer Mike Portnoy to record on behalf of him. Mike said it would be an honor and without question that’s what Jim would have wanted.

“It’s comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev’s abilities.

“Even though it will never be the same without our brother by our side, his essence lives in our hearts and through the music he helped create. He was a legend before any of the success or any of that bullshit and we are fucking excited to lay this down for our fans, and especially for Jimmy.”

Sullivan was found dead at his Huntington Beach home on December 28.

The Orange County coroner’s office ordered “toxicology, microscopic and laboratory tests” to help determine why Sullivan died.

Sacramento’s Deftones has set “Diamond Eyes” as the title of its new album, due on May 18. A song from the CD, “Rocket Skates”, will be made available as a free download via Deftones.com on February 23. Check out a sneak preview here.

In a recent interview with Spin.com, Deftones frontman Chino Moreno stated about the forthcoming CD:

“The dynamics Deftones are known for — aggressive overtones and lush openness. They’re on opposite sides of the spectrum, but we meld them together without sounding contrived. There are a few heavy songs, too, like our first couple records, and there are also experimental tunes — but there’s not a minute on this record that feels like it doesn’t need to be there. Each sound complements the other. I’ll straight-up say it: it’s definitely one of our best albums.”

Regarding he lyrical direction of the new album, Moreno said:

“Well, I’ve been wanting to record a fantasy album like ‘White Pony’, where the lyrics are less, ‘This is my life and this is what we’re going through.’ It helps take us away from reality. I don’t like listening to people’s problems — I like music. Music has been smothered with that complaining since the early-’90s. It gets old. Instead of going to the opposite side of the spectrum and listening to Black Eyed Peas, which is just straight silly, I choose to listen to more instrumental music.

“I do very little singing about myself on this record. I love songs where I can totally take myself out of being human. I can sing about really odd things, and they don’t necessarily have to pertain to me at all. It paints a picture. Those are the kind of lyrics I grew up with — like The Cure. Really visual images and no storytelling.”

Teglas will join Pennywise on its upcoming European tour which kicks off this April. That tour will be preceded by a few warm up West Coast dates that start on March 17 in San Diego, CA. Pennywise is currently at work on a new record, its first featuring the new lineup.
After the sudden departure of former singer Jim Lindberg, a member of Pennywise for 19 years, guitarist Fletcher Dragge called Teglas a “natural choice” to take over vocal duties for the band.

Bassist Randy Bradbury explains, “What started out as a temporary position was just too good to put an end to. Zoli brings to the table a tremendous vocal ability, creativity, and a die hard work ethic. Teglas was excited to take the stage with his friends, noting, “I’m stoked to be singing with Pennywise. I’m a huge fan of the band and am super grateful to share the stage with my long time friends Fletcher, Byron and Randy.”

Calling it quits was never in the cards for the remaining members of Pennywise. “We love this, we love going on the road,” Dragge explained to AP back in August ’09. “There’s nothing more important to me than being on stage in front of our fans and having them sing our lyrics back at us and feel the energy. This has become so much bigger than just us as a band. It’s become a family and a brotherhood of people that I feel depend on us. I’m still here to continue to deliver the message as are Byron and Randy. Our motto is to follow your dreams and pursue them. Don’t waste time because if you’re wasting time on something you’re not into, then you’re not living. We’re going to go out there and have fun doing what we love until it stops being fun.
Pennywise is one of the most significant bands to emerge from Southern California’s second wave of punk rock. Formed in 1988 in Hermosa Beach, California, Pennywise has released nine full-length studio albums; one live album; two extended plays; and one DVD. Their most recent studio effort, Reason to Believe, was released to over 500,000 fans for free through a limited offering from MySpace Records. The critically acclaimed album was also sold physically and digitally the world over. “The Western World,” the first single from this watershed album, quickly became the most successful single of the band’s storied career.

Founded when punk rock couldn’t be less popular and hair bands were in fashion, Pennywise quickly developed a style entirely its own–a tsunami of California hardcore, melodic surf punk and optimistic anthems that went against the seek-and-destroy ethos of its era.

“We’ve done things our own way,” Dragge points out, “and we’ve never taken no for answer. We’ve been a punk band for 20 years, and we’ve traveled the world and we’ve had a lot of people tell us what we could and couldn’t do. ‘Tell me what we can’t do, and I’ll try twice as hard to do it.’ That’s the one thing this band has taught me: ‘If you want it bad enough, you can have it.”

Warner Music has announced plans to stop licensing its artists’ content on free music software such as Spotify, We7 and Last.FM.

The move means that acts including the likes of Muse, REM and Red Hot Chili Peppers may not be available on new streaming services.

The label’s chief executive, Edgar Bronfman Jr, said that the kind of services offered by streaming sites were “clearly not positive” for the music industry, reports BBC News.

“Free streaming services are clearly not net positive for the industry and as far as Warner Music is concerned will not be licensed,” Bronfman explained of the decision. “The ‘get all your music you want for free, and then maybe with a few bells and whistles we can move you to a premium price strategy’, is not the kind of approach to business that we will be supporting in the future.”

However, a spokesperson for Warner Music confirmed that, at present, the new plans are only likely to affect future deals, reports The Guardian. This means that streaming applications such as Spotify that already host Warner Music artists will be able to continue doing so.

Bronfman added that he wants to work on getting more people to take out subscriptions with applications unique to Warner Music, where a set fee would be paid in return for content. He reasoned that the amount of potential subscribers for that would “dwarf” the number of people who currently buy music from sites such as iTunes.

The musician who composed the song featured on the US Air Force’s recent Super Bowl half-time advert, which The White Stripes accused of being a re-recorded version of their song ‘Fell In Love With A Girl’, has apologized to the duo.

Freelance composer Kem Krafthas said that similarities between his instrumental advert song, aired on February 7 during the televised sporting event and Jack and Meg White’s 2002 hit were coincidental.

“I’m sorry it sounds the same,” Kraft told The New York Times. “It wasn’t my intention, truly, truly, truly.”

The White Stripes had threatened to take action against the Air Force over the song, saying they believe their song had been “re-recorded and used without permission”.

Kraft said that he had originally submitted three songs for the advert and, after one was chosen, altered it to “beef it up”. Mike Lee, of the Fast Forward Productions company in charge of the advert, said he hadn’t heard ‘Fell In Love With A Girl’. “I had no idea there was similarity until after the fact,” he said.

He added that he was open to discussions with the band. He said he would chat if they “want to call me and talk to me – as far as I’m concerned, I’m responsible for this. Just me”.

According to The Pulse of Radio, GODSMACK has officially named its new album “The Oracle”, after initially calling the project “Saints & Sinners”. Footage of the band working in the studio, along with frontman Sully Erna discussing the title change and some of the new material, has been posted online and can be viewed below. The group's fifth studio effort follows up 2006's “IV” and a nearly two-year hiatus that ended last summer when GODSMACK joined the Crüe Fest 2 tour.

Sully Erna told The Pulse of Radio that following their hiatus, GODSMACK intends to keep working straight through the next decade. “We grinded pretty hard for 10 years and we took a strict year off,” he said. “I mean literally, when we pulled the plug on the tour, we said, don't call me, I'll call you. And then, you know, the following year, we started writing the new record. So we decided that since we pretty much have had two years off, we are now gonna get back into it for the next 10 years again and really grind hard.”

Other new songs include “War & Peace”, “Devil's Swing” and “Whiskey Hangover”, which the band issued as a single last summer.

A release date has yet to be announced for “The Oracle”.

During their break, the band released a greatest hits set, while the rest of the group minus Erna issued an album under the name ANOTHER ANIMAL. Erna has also been working on his first solo effort.

In a move that signifies the end of an era, MTV will no longer include the words “Music Television” under its iconic logo. The Wrap was the first to report on the new logo, which will still feature the monolithic “M” and its dripping “TV,” but no underlying text. The shift seems to confirm what many have suspected for years: Following the cancellation of TRL and the success of Jersey Shore, The Hills and the Real World spin-offs, music is no longer MTV’s main priority.

“The people who watch it today, they don’t refer to MTV as music television. They don’t have the same emotional connection that, say, the people who are writing about [the logo change] do,” MTV’s head of marketing Tina Exarhos told the Los Angeles Times. Exarhos adds that the marketing department had previously toyed with removing “music television” but felt the text was too sacred and that higher-ups wouldn’t approve the idea. Since the network is introducing some new on-air designs, “now felt like the right time” to update the logo, Exarhos said.

It remains to be seen if the logo change will have any further impact on MTV’s scheduling. The network will likely continue to schedule their Video Music Awards and provide ancillary between-commercial coverage to musical figures. However, the removal of “Music Television” makes it harder for critics to point out that MTV’s programming isn’t really dedicated to music.

There’s a brief history of the MTV logo posted on the Website for Frank Olinsky, one of the designers who created it; according to Olinksy, the logo originally was not accepted by the fledgling network until the words “Music Television” were added underneath. Nearly 30 years later, Olinsky’s original design has returned.

After an epic battle for the Christmas Number One spot, Rage Against The Machine guitarist Tom Morello promised UK fans a free gig to celebrate the victory.

Looks like Morello has followed through on his promise to fans as the first batch of information about this one-off show will be available this week. Promoter Andy Copping recently posted the following on his Twitter account:

“There should be news regarding the free Rage Against The Machine gig late next week.”

He then followed up with another post later that said:

Seriously, Sam is very happy to be going into the studio with CHICKENFOOT to start the second album in April.”

Recent reports in Classic Rock indicated that Billy Idol, Chris Cornelland Paul Rodgers had all been approached to fill in for Tyler, who is currently in rehab and mulling a contentious two-year break to pursue a solo project. The rest of AEROSMITH have said they'll hire a singer for touring until Tyler returns.

Roadrunner Records recently re-signed BLACK LABEL SOCIETY exclusively for the European territory. The band's as-yet-untitled studio album is due for release this summer.

BLACK LABEL SOCIETY is preparing to enter Zakk's newly completed mountain-top recording studio to record its latest slab of uncompromising, unfiltered, and unrestrained rock and roll. Recording is slated to start later this month and with the new flexibility of having a studio literally outside his home, Wylde expects to deliver his best material yet. “With the home studio I have this flexibility when inspiration hits to lay down new ideas at anytime — day or night — for re-recording later,” he says. “This freshness should prove inspiring — and some of these first takes might even make it on the album,” he enthuses.

Zakk continues, “I'm ready to work with our BLACK LABEL brothers and sisters at Roadrunner in Europe! They share the same Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever attitude as BLACK LABEL SOCIETY does so it only seems natural to continue working together!”

Zakk's new studio was built by Zack Fagan of Under The Wire, a Studio City, California-based company which specializes in the installation of commercial and private recording studios and post-production complexes.

E1 Music recently announced the addition of BLACK LABEL SOCIETY to its rock and metal roster. The two-album deal covers North America exclusively.

Guitarist Dan Donegan told The Pulse of Radio that Disturbed had 15 to 18 songs ready to go, adding that the band doesn't like to waste time once it gets started. “I mean, we definitely go in there very prepared,” he said. “We never enter the studio unless we feel like, right now, if these are the songs we record, that we would have an album that we're proud of and we're excited about. And we put everything under the microscope and examine it the best we can to make sure that we're prepared. We don't like going in there wasting time. We go in there to work, and to try to make the best album we can.”

Meanwhile, the band has set March 23 as the release date for the 10th anniversary edition of its debut album, “The Sickness”. The set, which will also be available on vinyl, will feature B-sides, new artwork, and exclusive online content.

Around the same time, the group will re-launch its website with a special section, accessible only by a code included with new copies of “The Sickness”, that will feature clips of the quartet in the studio recording their new album.

Blink-182 guitarist/vocalist Tom DeLonge is taking a break from major-label life with the release of the forthcoming album by his other band, Angels & Airwaves. The group’s third studio album, “Love,” will arrive February 14 as a free digital download.

DeLonge and Angels & Airwaves manager Rick DeVoe agree that self-releasing the 10-song set is a financial risk, especially with DeLonge spending up to $500,000 of his own money to fund the process. But the artist hopes to recoup through corporate sponsorships, touring, merchandise sales, premium exclusive tracks and videos on the band’s Web site and by selling a deluxe version of “Love” with 30 minutes of exclusive bonus material.

“We’re redefining the music business,” says DeLonge, who finished a reunion tour last fall with Blink-182. “And I honestly think we’re going to be 10 times bigger because of it.”

DeLonge initially approached the label with the idea of releasing the album for free. But “there are certain costs they couldn’t throw under the rug,” he says. After failed negotiations, Geffen agreed to allow Angels & Airwaves to self-release “Love.”

“When you sign with a label early in your career, it’s because they have the advantage of investing in your brand,” DeLonge says, noting that he owns the masters and publishing rights for “Love.” “Now it’s changed, because the majority of the kids now get their records for free (and) the labels don’t have money to invest.”

“Love” will be available as a free download on Angels & Airwaves’ web site, and a deluxe version of the album will be sold at stores and digital retailers, including iTunes, for about $5-$10. A final release date for the deluxe version hasn’t been set.

Additionally, a feature film titled “Love” will hit select theaters later in the year, according to DeLonge. The music from “Love” will serve as the soundtrack to the film, which centers on an astronaut who is stranded in a space station as the Earth collapses.

To help market and promote the album, Angels & Airwaves partnered with Live Nation, Fuel TV and Hurley, among others, to feature the download link on their web sites and send e-mail blasts to their customer databases. The combined lists will reach about 55 million people, according to DeLonge.

According to The Pulse of Radio, the original lineup of Jane’s Addiction headed into the studio on Monday (January 18) to begin writing new material, although it’s too early to say whether this will result in the band recording its fourth full-length studio album. According to Stereokill.net, singer Perry Farrell revealed the news by responding to a fan’s question about whether the group would write new songs at the band’s Facebook page, writing, “Monday we get together to write new music and craft a future.”

This is the second time since reuniting in the fall of 2008 that Jane’s Addiction has attempted to begin work on a new project. The band entered a studio last spring, but Farrell told The Pulse of Radio that it didn’t work out too well that time.

“You know, I’ll be honest with you,” he said. “We started to record and things got kind of ugly (laughs). You know, it’s one of those things where the headbutting really came out when we tried to write and people were like, ‘Well, I don’t like that . . . ‘ But you know what? I’m very patient, because it’s only been, what, 18 years, so I can’t expect things overnight to be perfect.”

The original lineup of Jane’s Addiction, which features Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro, drummer Stephen Perkins and bassist Eric Avery, regrouped in the fall of 2008 and toured last spring with Nine Inch Nails.

It was the first time the original quartet had performed together since 1991. Two other reunions in 1997 and 2001 did not include Avery.

Avery’s participation in the new recording sessions has been thrown into doubt as well, following his non-appearance at a Jane’s Addiction gig on New Year’s Eve and his absence from a recent band photo. He has been confirmed to perform with the group on an Australian tour next month.

William Goodman of Spin.com recently conducted an interview with Stone Temple Pilots members Dean DeLeo (guitar) and Robert DeLeo (bass). An excerpt from the chat follows below.

Spin.com: Where are you guys in the recording process now?

Dean DeLeo: We’re done recording and will start mixing Monday.

Robert DeLeo: Yep, we just finished the last two songs at my home studio, and we’re going through the editing process and getting everything sounding tasty. A gentleman by the name of Chris Lord-Alge, who actually mixed a song of ours back in early 2000 called “All in the Suit That You Wear”, will mix the new album.

What should fans expect from this record?

Robert: Fans are going get a great STP record. We know what STP sounds like — we have a sonic blueprint. It’s always worked for me to put myself in the ears of the listener. I ask myself, “What kind of STP record would I want to hear?” The answer is a really cohesive record with songs that are going to be lasting. Fans don’t necessarily want to hear songs from me being the best person I can be. Those songs are for a solo record. STP fans don’t want that side of me. This band is attractive because we bring it to the edge of a cliff and write songs that have attitude.

Can you tell me about a few songs from the album?

Robert: There’s a song called “Between the Lines”, which musically is like Paul Revere And The Raiders, with that ’60s sound that I’ve always been a fan of. It’s a ’60s rockin’ basher! There’s another song called “Huckleberry Crumble”. It’s funny: these were actually working titles from when Dean, Eric [Kretz, drums], and I were writing the music at Eric’s studio. Scott [Weiland, vocals] has gravitated toward them and we’re officially using those titles, “Huckleberry Crumble” included. [Faux British accent]: “And it’s another good rocker, baby!”
