Social Distortion drummer Charlie “Chalo” Quintana has announced his departure from the band. Filling the spot will be Atom Willard, a veteran of bands including Rocket from the Crypt, The Offspring and Angels and Airwaves.
The band noted:
“After ten amazing years behind the drum kit for Social Distortion, Charlie “Chalo” Quintana has announced he’s moving on to explore other musical opportunities.” Charlie had this to say about his departure, “Playing with Social D for ten years was a good time in my life. I was lucky to play on two Social D records and the second solo album, and I am proud to have been part of the band. We hit some spectacular heights which I will never forget – adios amigos!”
Willard will make his debut with the band at the forthcoming Jay Thomas benefit on May 18 at the House of Blues in Anaheim.
Social Distortion have been hard at work on new material for an album to be released this year, but the band has not confirmed whether Willard will be involved in recording it. It will be their first since 2004′s Sex, Love and Rock ‘n’ Roll. Their lastest release is the 2007 Greatest Hits compilation.
